In 2017, many people may be looking for jobs that are close to home and in good standing.
However, this is only true if you can afford to live in a big city and you can find a decent job, according to research conducted by the Centre for Housing and Urban Research (CURUS).
“It is difficult to find houseskeeping jobs in Delhi or other big cities, which are far away from the centre, if you have to commute from the city, said the CURUS chief, Dr Shree Venkatraman.
The research also found that, in a lot of cases, there is no demand for housekeeping jobs even if you are a veteran or have a good reputation.
For those looking for a job in the city or big cities near Delhi, the survey found that the demand for jobs in these areas is far greater than the availability of good houseskeeping positions. “
We found that a lot people are willing to pay around Rs 25,000 a month for housekeepers, but they are not able to find jobs in the big cities,” said Venkat.
For those looking for a job in the city or big cities near Delhi, the survey found that the demand for jobs in these areas is far greater than the availability of good houseskeeping positions.
The survey revealed that out of 2,800 houseskeeping vacancies, around 2,500 are vacant in major cities.
In Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, there are only 1,400 vacancies in housekeeping positions, while Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru have around 200 vacancies each.
According to the survey, vacancies in the service sector are increasing as well.
Out of 3,000 vacancies in service sector jobs, only 6 percent are available in the major cities of Delhi and Mumbai, while the number in Bangalore is around 25 percent.
In Chennai, the vacancy rate is around 3 percent.
“While the demand is there, the availability is not,” said a housekeeper from Hyderabad.
In the bigger cities, the demand does not match the availability.
With the population of the city growing at a steady rate, more people are being drawn to the big city, which is a bigger business for the government, which pays salaries to people who work in houses, said a government official.
